Iran has been disconnected from the SWIFT network since 2018 under US Treasury sanctions, making conventional cross-border wire transfers impossible for most international banks. Domestic IRR settlements use the CBI's SATNA RTGS and the Shetab domestic card network. Permitted humanitarian transactions (food, medicine) may use limited channels via specific non-US affiliated correspondents in certain jurisdictions, subject to strict OFAC exemption requirements.

Most international SWIFT wires arrive in Iran within 2–5 business days. Payments cleared through correspondent banks may take longer depending on intermediary routing and local cut-off times.
Iran processes large-value interbank settlements through SATNA (domestic only). Retail transfers typically use ACH or local clearing networks, while cross-border wires enter via SWIFT.
The primary settlement currency is IRR — Iranian Rial. Foreign-currency wires are converted at the receiving bank's prevailing rate unless a specific currency account is held at the beneficiary institution.
