Ohmyfin responde: What does the SWIFT reject code AC06 mean?

A Ohmyfin responde abaixo. O conteúdo está em inglês.

AC06 means 'Blocked Account'. The beneficiary's account exists and is open, but is blocked by the bank — usually for regulatory, AML, sanctions, or court-order reasons. The payment is rejected and funds are returned. This code is more sensitive than AC01 or AC04 and may indicate a compliance issue.

AC06 is an ISO 20022 ExternalReturnReason1Code indicating that the beneficiary account is frozen, blocked, or restricted by the beneficiary bank. Unlike AC01 (wrong number) or AC04 (closed), AC06 means the account is identified and open, but cannot receive funds due to a hold placed by the bank or a regulator.

Common triggers: the beneficiary is under investigation for fraud, money laundering, or sanctions violations; a court has placed a freezing order on the account; the bank has placed a temporary hold during an identity verification (KYC) re-check; or the account is blocked because it is dormant under local banking law.

What to do: the sender cannot resolve this directly. The beneficiary must contact their own bank to understand why the account is blocked and resolve the underlying issue. If the block is sanctions-related, funds may be frozen and held pending regulatory instruction.

In all cases, track the UETR on Ohmyfin to confirm the RJCT / AC06 status and that funds are being returned (or held, in the sanctions case).
