How to track a Chase international wire transfer

JPMorgan Chase is one of the largest SWIFT participants in the world — it is a GPI-enabled sender, major USD correspondent, and the clearing bank for a significant share of global dollar payments. If you sent an international wire from Chase, or if Chase appears in the routing chain, here is exactly how to track it.

Chase's main SWIFT BIC is CHASUS33 (Chase Manhattan Bank, New York). For specific Chase branches, an 11-character BIC adds a 3-letter branch suffix. For international wires, CHASUS33 is the relevant BIC in almost all cases.

Finding the UETR in Chase online banking: log in to chase.com, go to "Pay & Transfer" then "Activity", click the international wire in question, and scroll to "Wire details". Chase began displaying UETRs (labelled "End-to-end tracking reference" or "GPI reference") on the activity detail page for most personal and business accounts in 2021.

If the UETR is not visible on the website: use the Chase Mobile app — navigate to the transaction detail, tap "See wire details". Some account types show the UETR in the app but not the web portal. If still not found, call Chase's international wire support at 1-800-935-9935 (option for international payments) and ask for "the UETR in field 121 of my MT103 wire".

Chase business customers with Treasury Management services have access to Chase's proprietary GPI-connected portal, which displays hop-by-hop status, correspondent names, deducted fees, and expected credit time. This is the most detailed view available without a third-party tracker.

Once you have the UETR, paste it on Ohmyfin. You will see the same GPI data Chase reads internally — which bank has confirmed receipt, what status it is in, and the timestamp of the last update. If the status is ACSC and the beneficiary has not seen the credit, the delay is at the beneficiary bank, not Chase.

Chase typical processing times: USD domestic wires — same day if sent before 18:00 ET. USD international wires — 1–2 business days for most destinations. EUR wires via SEPA routing — 1 business day. Payments to USD-restricted corridors (Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Syria, Russia) are blocked entirely.

A note on Chase as correspondent: if your wire from a non-Chase bank routes through CHASUS33, and the GPI chain is stuck there, the most likely cause is OFAC screening. Chase's sanctions compliance is among the most rigorous in the US system — expect 3–7 days for screening holds on name-match alerts.

Key takeaways

Frequently asked questions

Does Chase report international wires to the IRS?

Chase is required to report certain international transactions to FinCEN under Bank Secrecy Act requirements. Sending large wires (generally above USD 10,000) may trigger SAR-related processes. This does not affect your wire's arrival but may cause a compliance hold.

Can I cancel a Chase international wire?

Chase allows cancellations of international wires before they are released from their payment processing system — typically within 30 minutes of submission. After that, you need to request a recall (MT292) through Chase's international payments team.

Why does Chase say my wire is "processing" after 3 days?

"Processing" on Chase's portal can mean it is in their system but not yet released to SWIFT, it is in SWIFT transit (check GPI status on Ohmyfin), or it was rejected and Chase has not yet notified you. Call the international wire team with the transaction reference.

Is Chase a good bank for international wires?

Chase is reliable and GPI-compliant. However, its OFAC screening is strict and its fees (typically USD 40–50 per outbound international wire) are higher than specialist transfer services. For large, one-off commercial wires, Chase is a solid choice. For frequent small remittances, services like Wise or Remitly are cheaper.
