About Xoom

Why Xoom has no public tracker

Because PayPal owns Xoom and both share a single identity / KYC backbone, every Xoom transfer is treated as a PayPal transaction from a regulatory standpoint — which means transfer status sits behind PayPal's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA, PSD2-mandated in the EU/UK). There is no public lookup endpoint and never will be, by design. The receiver does get a unique tracking link emailed to them, which works without a PayPal/Xoom login.

Step-by-step: find your Xoom transfer

  1. Go to xoom.com (or open the PayPal app → Send → Send internationally — the flow re-uses your existing PayPal credentials).
  2. Sign in with the email + password the sender used to create the Xoom transfer. If 2-factor is enabled (mandatory in EU/UK since SCA went live), approve the prompt in your PayPal authenticator app or via SMS code.
  3. Tap "Transaction History" (top right on web, bottom nav on app). The most recent transfer is at the top with a colour-coded status pill.
  4. Tap the transfer to open the detail page. The timeline shows: "We received your payment" → "Sending your money" → "Delivered". If Xoom needs anything, the page will show a yellow "Action needed" banner with a button to resolve it.

Common reasons a Xoom transfer is delayed

PayPal source-funding hold — sender funded with a brand-new bank account that PayPal has not yet verified, or used a credit card the issuer is challenging
Fix: Sender opens PayPal → Wallet → check the funding source for a yellow warning. Either confirm the small deposits PayPal sent to the bank, switch funding source, or wait 24–48 hours for PayPal to clear the verification.
Recipient bank rejected the deposit (wrong account number, IFSC / SWIFT code, account-holder name mismatch, dormant account, account does not accept inbound foreign currency)
Fix: Xoom will email the sender within 24 hours. Sender corrects the details in xoom.com → Transaction History → Edit, or cancels for a full refund (typically credited within 3–5 business days).
Cash pickup partner branch closed at the time receiver arrives (covid-era reduced hours still common in LatAm, Caribbean and West Africa)
Fix: Receiver tries any other partner branch in the same network — the tracking page lists every active branch with current hours.
OFAC / sanctions screening — typically triggered for transfers to Cuba (Xoom-supported), Venezuela, Lebanon, Russia (blocked), or where the receiver name partially matches a screening list
Fix: Xoom will contact the sender for additional information (receiver ID, sender's relation, purpose). Most cases clear within 24 hours; pure name-collision blocks usually clear in under 4 hours.
Destination country bank holiday or weekend cutoff (LatAm and SE Asia bank-deposit transfers settle on the next local business day)
Fix: For urgent transfers switch to cash pickup or mobile wallet — both settle in minutes, 24/7/365 in most corridors.

Fees & FX

Xoom fees vary by corridor, amount and funding source. Bank-deposit transfers up to ~USD 1,000 funded from a PayPal balance or US bank account are free in many premium corridors (US→IN, US→PH, US→MX). Credit/debit card funding adds USD 3.99–9.99 per transfer plus a 1.5%–3% card surcharge. The FX margin is typically 0.5%–3.5% above mid-market, wider than Wise but tighter than legacy bank wires. Xoom shows the exact fee + FX rate before you confirm and locks the rate for the duration of the transfer.

Does Xoom use SWIFT?

Xoom does NOT use SWIFT for the customer-facing leg — funds move through PayPal's own correspondent network (PayPal pre-funds local accounts in destination countries and credits the receiver from that pool). PayPal aggregates and settles the resulting positions with its banking partners over normal commercial channels, but no individual transfer carries a UETR. Xoom's "transaction confirmation number" is internal to PayPal and cannot be looked up on the SWIFT GPI network.

Xoom scam warning

Watch out: Xoom-specific scams in 2026: (1) Fake PayPal "alerts" by SMS or email asking you to verify your account or release a held transfer via a phishing link. PayPal never asks for your password by email. (2) Romance scams asking for Xoom transfers to a "spouse abroad". (3) Job offers requiring you to receive funds then forward them via Xoom. If a transfer feels wrong, cancel it inside xoom.com — refunds are guaranteed up to the point the receiver collects.
