Key facts

Frequently asked questions

Does Zelle use SWIFT?

No. Zelle is a US-only payment network and does not interface with SWIFT at all. It uses Early Warning Services' own real-time rails between participating US banks.

Can Zelle send money internationally?

No — Zelle works only between US bank accounts. There is no international Zelle. Beware of scammers claiming to "send Zelle from overseas" — it's impossible.

Why does someone overseas say they sent me Zelle?

It's a scam. Common variations: "I sent Zelle but the limit kicked in, send me crypto to release the rest", "fake Zelle confirmation email from spoofed alert@zellepay.com asking you to send money to confirm". Zelle is US-only; no international transfers possible.

How do I track a Zelle payment?

In your bank's app or website — the Zelle activity feed shows status (Pending / Sent / Delivered) and a confirmation code. There's no UETR because there's no SWIFT.

Are there international alternatives to Zelle?

Yes: Wise, Revolut, Remitly, WorldRemit for app-based; Western Union, MoneyGram for cash; bank SWIFT wire for traditional. All of these can be tracked on Ohmyfin if they use SWIFT (Wise / Revolut / WU / MG sometimes do).

Why is Zelle on Ohmyfin's glossary if it never uses SWIFT?

Because users frequently search "Zelle vs SWIFT", "is Zelle international", "track Zelle wire". This page sets the record straight: Zelle = US domestic only, no SWIFT, can't be tracked here.

Can my US bank send a SWIFT wire?

Yes — every major US bank (Chase, BofA, Wells Fargo, Citi, etc.) supports outgoing SWIFT wires via online banking or in-branch. Those wires get a UETR and CAN be tracked on Ohmyfin.

What is the SWIFT equivalent for US domestic?

Fedwire (Federal Reserve's real-time gross settlement) and ACH (batch). Zelle runs on neither — it uses Early Warning Services' own faster-payments rails for sub-second clearing.

Is Zelle safer than SWIFT?

Different threat models. Zelle is instant and irreversible (like cash), making it a favourite for scammers. SWIFT is slower but reversible in most cases (recall possible). Always verify the beneficiary before sending either.

Why doesn't Zelle support international?

It was designed as a US-domestic competitor to Venmo and Cash App, owned by US banks for US customers. International would require correspondent banking — exactly the SWIFT model Zelle was built to avoid.
